Suleman Dangor
Suleman Dangor is professor of Islamic Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He was born and raised in Mpumalanga (formerly Eastern Transvaal) where he attended five different schools. He obtained a BA Honours MA and D. Phil. at UKZN and a Higher Diploma in Arabic from the Arabic Language Institute in Riyadh. Professor Dangor has supervised 15 BA Honours projects, 12 MA students and 8 Ph D students. Currently, he is supervising two post-graduate students. He has (a) served on the editorial board of several journals (b) refereed articles for a number of publications (c) evaluated research projects, researchers and programmes for the National Research Foundation
(d) acted as external examiner for several universities and (e) served as moderator for the International Peace University.
Professor Dangor belongs to several professional associations. He has been an active member of numerous university committees, community organizations and national entities including the South African Broadcasting Corporation and Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious & Linguistic Communities. Over the past 25 years, Professor Dangor has attended over 100 conferences, seminars and workshops locally, nationally and internationally where he presented about 70 papers. He has over 70 publications to his credit, including articles, chapters and books. He has also been involved with the media as a Talk Show presenter on Radio al-Ansar since 1997, a monthly columnist with the Muslim Views since 1994 and with the Ummah since 1993. He has also written for The Natal Witness, al-Qalam and Africa Perspectives.
